Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWP) Courses
Mobile Elevated Working Platforms are now becoming an essential piece of equipment used within industry and construction. It assists in the time taken to achieve job completion. Previously, working at heights could mainly only be done from scaffolds, cradles etc. The flexibility of MEWPS has changed views and working conditions greatly. As with any type of specialised equipment, the operators have to be able to use the equipment safely.
There are several types of MEWPS. All types of MEWPs have their own specific dangers:
- Scissor Lift
- Telescopic Boom (Zoom Boom)
- Articulated Boom (Cherry Picker)
Scissor Lift
The Scissor Lift is the simplest of them all, as the platform simply moves up and down as well as being able to move on the ground.

Telescopic/Articulated MEWPs
These are more dangerous machinery, and therefore more in-depth training is required. This is due to the nature of machinery, which not only moves up and down, but sideways also.
As Telescopic/Articulated MEWPs have more inherent dangers than scissor lifts, the license granted at the end of the training allows successful delegates to operate scissor lifts.
The courses must be undertaken at client premises, away from the general working area. An adequate room is needed to do the theory work and safety harnesses will be required for all trainees and instructors.
